The Soccer Player's Very Bad Day

When Wonderful Husband and I got back from our DC trip yesterday, Grandma told us that The Soccer Player had just thrown up. And, it continued for most of the day. The poor thing was puking up all the nasty pollen phlegm and snot she has been dealing with for the past few weeks. Around 4:00 she started feeling better and back to her old self. She joined us for dinner, and we thought everything was fine. But, no. When she was walking into the shower last night, Wonderful Husband noticed a huge tick on her back. After plenty of freaking out and checking the Internet and calling friends to figure out what to do, we finally were able to get it off of her. (Needless to say, all of us were scratching and checking ourselves the rest of the night.)

She is back at school today, and we are hopeful that she will actually be able to make her soccer game on Saturday. She has had to miss 2 this year because of her allergies.

I am thinking of just covering her in plastic for the entire month of April in the future. Or maybe giving her a mask like those Chinese people always wear every time there is a breakout of something.

DC Date Weekend

Thanks to Grandma and Granddad, Wonderful Husband and I got to spend a terrific weekend together in DC. It has been so long since we have been able to take one of our trips. We really needed it!

Pollen SUCKS!

Yes, you heard me! I HATE pollen! I HATE it! It ruins every Spring for this family. I am so sick of it!

Yesterday morning, The Dancer and I went to a few yard sales. By the time we got home, she couldn't even open her eyes. Then, we all decide to go run a few errands, and The Gals are both sneezing and itching and scratching. We get home, and, I swear to you, you could see the pollen just floating through the air. Wonderful Husband said he saw a squirrel jump from one branch to another, and a puff of pollen went up as it landed. My car was turning that hideous greenish-yellow color right in front of my eyes - which at this point had started watering and burning. The temperature was so nice last night, but could we sit out on the deck? No! We were supposed to go for a bike ride after church today. Can we do it? No! My entire front porch is covered in it. You can see our shoe prints. My black seat cushions look gray.

The Gals didn't even want to go to Target with me earlier because it burns and itches so much every time they step outside. And, yes, they are on medicine, but in the depths of it right now it doesn't help - it just seems to prevent infections. And, I have pollen contact rashes all over. There aren't enough showers I can take or lotion I can use to stop the itching.

Even poor Scarlett is walking around sneezing and throwing up greenish-yellow gunk. It is attacking all of us! I hate it! Go Green? GO AWAY!!

More Fun

A few weeks ago, we decided to pull The Gals out of school today and join our Dear Onofrys at Busch Gardens. Well, we could not have picked a better day. The weather was awesome. It wasn't very crowded. And, I got to eat lunch in Germany - my favorite country. Course, that sausage sampler plate that Wonderful Husband had will probably be revisiting us later, but it was totally worth it!

Toothless in Virginia

So, last night The Gals were in the bath tub, and, being the good mother I am, I was downstairs folding laundry. When I went up to check on them, The Dancer says "Look!" The Soccer Player is holding a tooth in her hand and is smiling the smile of someone who has no front teeth. I am in shock, of course, because she just lost the other front tooth Saturday night, and she has only just started losing teeth, so I have been figuring she would be about 10 by the time the next one fell out. While I am trying to get over the sight of my baby with no teeth, The Dancer says, "You're welcome." Before I can even ask what that is about, The Soccer Player says, "She pulled my tooth out." And, again, The Dancer says, "You're welcome."

It took me back to when I was a little girl, and I pulled out my sister Jackie's tooth at our babysitter's house while the other little kids held her arms down. (It wasn't like it wasn't already loose, and she really liked money then.)

Gotta love sisters!

Happy Easter

The Gals and I headed to Grammy and Papa's house Friday. They had a whole English Tea set up for us, and Papa showed The Gals how to fix their tea, eat their scones and garnish their cake with strawberries and whipping cream. Yesterday, we spent the day shopping and playing with Maggie. And, of course, today is Easter. After a very busy week, I am completely exhausted. I am in need of a break after Spring Break!

Another Fun Spring Break Day

The Gals and I headed to Busch Gardens this morning - bright and early - with the Hollberg Ladies. If you are a Virginia resident, you can buy a Fun Pass which allows you to pay one time and go back all summer. I can tell you we had a great time today, and I definitely see us going back.

Baltimore!

We just got back from spending a few days in Baltimore. The Gals and I had fun at the National Aquarium while Wonderful Husband had to work. We actually became members, so we were able to spend 2 days there. The new version of the Dolphin Show is part of our membership, so we got to check that out, too. (Tip: Check on membership prices to places like this. For a family of 5 - like ours - it was only like $20 more to become members as opposed to buying one time tickets.) At night, we met up with Wonderful Husband and ate at the ESPN Zone and the Hard Rock Cafe. It was just a really fun trip, and we can't wait to go back!

Eggcellent Colors!

Even though The Soccer Player has been sick for the past few days, we decided to go ahead and color our Easter eggs today. It was so pretty outside - it just felt like Spring. Grammy is going to get a few of these for her potato salad next weekend. She has plenty to pick from!
